Topographic surveys are performed in order to identify both natural and manmade features of a particular piece or area of land. Unlike other types of surveys that result in maps, topographic surveys are performed using EDM, GPS technology and drone mapping. The resulting topographic map includes a series of contour lines, which can be used to identify the changes in land conditions that have taken place over time. In addition to identifying the contours of the ground beneath and around a property, topographic surveys also map existing features on the earth’s surface as well as features that are slightly above or below it. These include trees, streets, buildings, manholes, walkways, utility poles, retaining walls, and other such land features.
